Missy DuBois is the owner of a custom hat shop in Louisiana. She and her roommate, Ambrose Jackson, work in shops that are just down from each other. Ambrose is a wedding designer and Missy is breaking into the bridal business with veils and head-covering for the bride and bridal party. Missy sees a beautiful old mansion that is for sale so she goes to the house to get a possible look at the interior. The realtor turns out to be an old college friend of hers, Millette Babineaux. Missy loves the house and can just imagine her shop being in the outer cottage next to the mansion. She goes to get Ambrose and returns to view the house with him. Something is definitely “foul” at the mansion as they find Millette dead in the shed with a bloody cross nearby. The story goes into voodoo practices in the area and other weird happenings on the bayou. The story was fast with plenty of odd characters in this small town. An enjoyable book for those who love cozy mysteries.
