You’re the One That I Want by Giovanna Fletcher

Maddy is walking down the aisle to be married to her longtime love, Robert. Ben is Maddy’s best friend and also the best man at the wedding. Maddy has always been in love with Ben and she comes down the aisle wondering if she’ll be able to marry Robert when she also loves Ben. The story then goes to the first time that the three met when they were children. The story jumps to different ages but the story always remains the same. I actually read the entire book but it was to hurry to find out who she ended up with. Great main story line, weak supporting story! Still a good read, just wished that there had been a little more to the story.

How to Make a French Family by Samantha Verant

Samantha Verant has written an entertaining and heartfelt memoir of her life beginning by meeting a handsome Frenchman, Jean Luc, as a 19 year old teenager. She soon was parting ways with him to return to school, but ended up reconnecting 20 years later. Samantha tells about her life in France, her stepchildren, friends, and family. The story is enjoyable, peppered with lots of French phrases and many wonderful French recipes . I definitely recommend this book to all!

Forever a Soldier by Genevieve Turner

Lale Pehlivan is doing research for her dissertation on a founding family in the early days of California. Her research leads her to an old family home and its caretaker, Hank Moreno. Hank is a vet who lives alone with his dog and the last thing that he wants or needs is someone snooping around in his family archives. Lale’s personality is a breath of sunshine and sweet smells to Hank. Hank is a cantankerous hermit who doesn’t like people around him. When they are together, something or someone has got to give! I really enjoyed this story. The author has written a beautifully crafted story with fabulous characterization that had me savoring the story to the very last page. This book is highly recommended to anyone who loves contemporary romance.

Sunrise Canyon by Janet Dailey

Jake O’Reilly has served his country proudly in the military! Now back in country, Jake is plagued with PTSD that has him homeless and moving from town to town. He’s trying to escape memories of the death of his wife and the young daughter that he left behind. He is found by his wife’s grandfather, Dusty, and brought back to the ranch where Kira (his wife’s cousin) is running a horse therapy program for troubled teens. The story is classic Janet Dailey! It has brooding, emotional characters and a rich, endearing story. The PTSD inclusion is so topical in today’s world. I felt like it was written in an educational way for someone who really doesn’t understand the symptoms and scope of life-altering trauma for those who live with it. I really loved the story and would highly recommend it to lovers of Debbie Macomber, Susan Wiggs, Robyn Carr and to anyone who loves contemporary romance.

Heather and two friends are on vacation in Europe after graduating from college. The streets of Amsterdam are full of tourists and the girls run into another American named Jack who is on an extended vacation himself. Heather and Jack get together and travel around Europe following Jack’s grandfather’s journal. The story is beautifully written and emotionally charged. Leopard at the Door by Jennifer McVeigh

The story is set in 1954, Kenya Colony, Africa. Rachel is coming back to the colony after spending 6 years in England after the death of her mother. Her father warns her not to return but she still comes back to many changes in her childhood home. Her father has taken in another woman who Rachel tries very hard to like and find common ground with. At this time in history, Kenya has a group called “Mau Mau” that has materialized in the strife for all land to be taken from white colonists and given back to the original inhabitants. I found this book to be beautifully written, and a fascinating and absorbing read. The characters were so vivid and the descriptions so colorful that I found myself languishing in the beautiful Kenyan countryside. I literally couldn’t put the book down and really recommend it to anyone who loves historical fiction !
