Letty Tinsley is heartbroken to learn that her brother who has been searching for gold in California is nowhere to be found. She takes it upon herself to travel to San Francisco through the Ithmus of Panama. The trip is difficult and long but she meets again a friend of her brother’s on the way, Garth Morgan. Sparks fly between them but things don’t go smoothly. Interesting historical novel with a hint of romance. I enjoyed the story and really appreciated reading about the difficult crossing of Panama in the days before the Panama Canal.
