Iain MacEnroy and his brothers stumble across a terrifying scene in the Arkansas Ozarks in 1860. They find a cabin burning with a woman and man dead in the yard. As they continue to search the grounds, they find Emily Stanton and her nephew, Neddy. Iain brings the two to his home and Emily is nursed back to health by Mrs. O’Neal, their housekeeper and neighbor. The same people who killed Emily’s sister and her husband continue to track Emily and try to kill Neddy. Iain and Emily are attracted to each other, overcoming their stations in life. I think that this series will be a great addition to historical romance. I really enjoyed the vivid, lovable characters and the sweet story. This is also a wonderful beginning to the new series, “Seven Brides for Seven Scotsmen.”
