Farewell, My Cuckoo by Marty Wingate

Sister-in-law Pammy has just shown up and is totally wrecking Julia and her boyfriend, Michael’s life. Michael and Julia were just getting cozy and headed toward marriage and now Julia is worried about keeping her boyfriend and solving a murder so that she can get her life back. This cozy mystery is the newest installment in author Marty Wingate’s, Birds of a Feather Mystery books. I do enjoy this series and think that anyone who likes mysteries would enjoy the humor and quirky string of characters.

Whisk yourself away on this adult “choose-your-own adventure” romance! As a retired children’s librarian, I am quite familiar with this genre. Unfortunately, I am not a fan nor do I find it interesting! Sorry!

The Patchwork Bride by Sandra Dallas

June is visiting her grandparents, Ellen and Ben. June has just run away from her fiancé, knowing that she was not ready to marry him. Ellen begins to tell June the story of a young woman and the three “runaway”engagements that she had in her lifetime. The first story begins in 1898 on a ranch in the New Mexico Territory of the U. S. This historical romance is a beautiful love story that is absolutely delightful and heartwarming. I was as eager as June, wanting to hear every detail of each story until the surprising ending. A big four and a half stars to to sweet tale of love and self-discovery!

The First Time at Firelight Falls by Julie Anne Long

A sweet story of a ten year old named Annalise in elementary school and her mother, Eden Hardwood. There also happens to be a sexy, ex-military principal, Gabe Caldera who becomes friendly and interested in Eden as they keep bumping into each other wherever they go. But complications are evident when we find that Eden is harboring a big secret that threatens to ruin her love life. This story started out ordinary and turned into a big bang! The Rescue by Jim Cymbala

Where do you turn when you can’t figure out how to deal with life? The Rescue by Pastor Jim Cymbala of the Brooklyn Tabernacle in Brooklyn, New York presents seven ordinary people and their stories of overcoming the despair in their lives by turning themselves over to the Most High God! These stories will lift you up and give you peace! One of my favorite quotes from the book really sums it up, ” I used to think you had to be in good shape to come to God. But now I realize that we all come broken.” Reading these stories will warm your heart and heal your mind! I recommend this book to everyone!

One Lucky Cowboy by Carolyn Brown

Jane Day rolls into North Texas on a Greyhound bus and ends up getting a job at a local ranch. Nellie Luckadeau takes Jane in to be a cook and helper at the Luckadeau ranch. Her grandson, Slade, is sure that his grandmother Nellie has made a big mistake in hiring Jane. He’s afraid that Jane is a drifter, thief, or just a dishonest person. Jane is really running away from her ex-fiance and stepfather who had a devious plan that was uncovered literally right before the wedding. Now Jane has to stay in hiding and can’t divulge anything from her past, no matter what. I really enjoyed the first half of the book but I got a little tired of the bantering between Jane and Slade and their crazy scheme to put her in hiding. Good story that really was weakened at the end.

One Lucky Cowboy by Carolyn Brown will be available March 6, 2018 by Sourcebooks, Casablanca. An egalley of this book was made available by the publisher in exchange for a honest review.

How Hard Can It Be? by Allison Pearson

Kate is British, beautiful, married and forty-nine, almost fifty. To top it all off, she is trying to find a job and going through menopause while he husband is going through a midlife crisis. Her teenage daughter just got a naked selfie of herself posted (by accident) all over the internet and her mother has just learned how to skype. Meanwhile, Kate is considering lying about her age to get a job because she has to pay all expenses for her home renovations by a terribly sexy Polish handyman. Whew, Kate’s life is so complicated! This funny, rollicking story will have you laughing all the way through it! Kate’s plight is so normal in so many ways (or should I say, usual) that the reader can identify with the character and “feel her pain” and anguish. I loved the story and really appreciated finding another author that I can look forward to reading !

Death by Dumpling by Vivien Chien

Lana Lee had made up her mind to be happy about working in her family’s noodle shop. She was asked to make a takeout delivery for the chef of Ho-Lee Noodle House right at lunchtime. She had a takeout order for Mr. Feng, the owner of the Asia village, the plaza where her family’s restaurant was located. Soon after the delivery, paramedics invaded the Plaza and the news swiftly spread that the body being taken off was none other than Mr. Feng, apparently the victim of eating something that he was highly allergic to. It seems that Mr. Feng was given seafood in his dumplings and those dumplings had been ordered from the Ho-Lee Noodle House. Lana works along with other characters to help vindicate her parent’s restaurant. I really enjoyed reading about the close relationships among the Asia Village shop owners and workers. The characters were engaging and believable which made this cozy mystery a delight to read. Good addition to the cozy mystery genre.
